The Visual Perception Lab uses functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), behavioural experiments, and computational modelling to investigate the neural mechanisms underlying visual perception. Our work seeks to unravel the mechanisms of unconscious and conscious visual information processing and alterations of these processes in psychiatric disorders. A particular focus of our research is on perceptual inference in bistable perception, which is typically evoked by perceptually ambiguous visual information such as reversible figures, ambiguous motion stimuli, or binocular rivalry.
The Visual Perception Lab receives funding from the DFG and the Berlin Institute of Health and is associated with the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience Berlin, the International Graduate Program Medical Neurosciences and the Berlin School of Mind and Brain.
