Global Mental Health Research Group

The Global Mental Health Research Group has the goal to investigate determinants of mental health and illness worldwide. The research group addresses mental health disparities and mental health service delivery especially in low- and middle-income countries. The group supports the goals of the Movement for Global Mental Health http://www.globalmentalhealth.org.

  • Mental health in deprived urban areas of Almaty, Kazakhstan and Berlin, Germany, in collaboration with the Kazakh National Medical University, supported by the International Bureau of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, IB-BMBF KAZ-09/002
  • Psychosocial needs of relatives and caregivers of persons with schizophrenia in collaboration with the Kazakh National Medical University
  • Building community mental health services with differently qualified practitioners in rural Bangladesh, Matlab area pilot project in collaboration with the Bangladeshi Mental Health Association BMHA
  • Psychotrauma in Northern Uganda in collaboration with the Department of Anthropology, Free University Berlin, supported by Thyssen Foundation
  • Drama therapy for persons with severe trauma after imprisonment and torture under the GDR-government supported by the Bundesstiftung zur Aufarbeitung der SED-Diktatur

  • Violent crimes in urban settings
