Matthias Guggenmos holds degrees in Physics, Computational Neuroscience and Psychology. He received a PhD from the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience Berlin, in which he studied neural processes of learning and attention. He then became a postdoctoral research fellow at the Charité to work on machine learning methods in the context of psychiatric neuroimaging. In 2018 he was awarded the qualification of university lecturer for Computational Neuroscience and Experimental Psychology (Habilitation). Since 2019 he is deputy head of the Visual Perception Lab and leads the DFG-funded research project "Confidence-based learning: establishing a novel form of learning without feedback" which aims to investigate the role of confidence in learning and decision making using computational modeling and functional neuroimaging.
